Web Desk. Australia, the government has announced that people from India, who have been severely affected by the spread of corona, could face up to five years in prison and a fine if they enter the country.
According to AFP news agency, Australian authorities have said that anyone who has been in India for the past 14 days from Monday will face imprisonment and fines if they enter the country.
It is to be noted that Australia has already imposed a ban on passengers coming from India which is effective till at least May 15. Australia announced the imposition of imprisonment and fines on passengers arriving from India on indirect flights into the country.
Health Minister Greg Hunt said in a statement after the ban was violated that “the government did not make these decisions easily.” The extraordinary spread of the coronavirus in India has led to a humanitarian crisis and in many countries has banned passengers from coming there.
For the first time in our history, it will be a criminal offence for some Australians to come home from overseas.
