Maldives bans travelers from 7 countries, including India and Pakistan

Web Desk. Wealthy Indians who have spent the holidays in the Maldives escaping the Corona epidemic in their home country will no longer be able to do so.

The country considered a tourist haven on Wednesday said, “we restricting the entry of citizens from South Asian countries because it is facing an increase in coronavirus cases”.

According to the French news agency AFP, the Indian Ocean tourist destination reopened in July last year after a three-month ban on international flights at the onset of the epidemic.

However, in a country with a population of 340,000, corona cases are now on the rise. A record 1,500 new epidemics cases were reported in the Maldives on Tuesday, down from less than 100 a day last month.

India, South Asia’s largest neighbor, especially the Maldives, has been hit hard by a new wave of coronavirus. The Maldivian Ministry of Tourism says its government has decided to temporarily suspend the issuance of visas to citizens of South Asian countries.

“These countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.”

According to the Ministry of Tourism statement, “this ban will also apply to travelers who have transited these countries for more than 24 hours or have traveled there during the last 14 days.”

“It should be noted that so far this year, most Indians have visited the Maldives.”

Bollywood stars who have visited the Maldives in recent weeks include Alia Bhatt, as well as Shraddha Kapoor, who shared her photos on Instagram while doing yoga at Maldivian resorts at sunset.

Although citizens of other countries are allowed to visit the Maldives, they must have a negative PCR test report that is no older than 96 hours. In addition, citizens of these countries will not be allowed to interact with locals.

The Maldives also banned entry to South Asian nationals with work permits this week. The government has extended the night curfew from 9 pm to 4 am to prevent the spread of the epidemic, now starting at 4 pm.
