Picasso’s Painting Sells for Record $103 Million

Web Desk. Well-known artist Pablo Picasso’s oil painting sold for $103.4 million in New York. According to a report by the British news agency ‘Reuters’, the purchase price of this painting surpassed the estimate of $55 million.

“The painting, bought for $103 million, shows a woman (Marie-Therese Walter) sitting by a window.”

Keith Gill, the head of Christie’s London’s Department of Modern Art, said art enthusiasts may be familiar with the artwork due to the Picasso 1932 exhibition in 2018.

“He said, this is an iconic image and has not been auctioned since 2013.”

Keith Gill said the portrait of Marie-Therese has been very popular, especially since 1932. According to Christie’s, the painting was purchased online by a California man after a long-running bid.

The auction, which was live-streamed from the Rockefeller Center, is the fifth painting by the Spanish artist Picasso to fetch more than $100 million. Prior to this painting, another Picasso painting sold for more than $170 million in 2015.
