Young patients who experience Covid may experience long-term symptoms or long Covid after recovery. This was revealed in a medical study conducted in the United States.
The Johns Hopkins Medicine study, which analyzed three cases, provided the first evidence that Covid-infected teens may experience a variety of symptoms after recovery.
The study, published in the medical journal Frontiers in Medicine, found that all three patients were diagnosed with the disease at the onset of the epidemic and later showed symptoms of fatigue syndrome.
According to the research, even after 6 months of the disease, these youngsters were still suffering from severe fatigue syndrome. The study included a man and two women between the ages of 22 and 30.
All three were infected with Covid between April and June 2020 and were asked to visit fatigue treatment centers between August and October of that year. All three experienced symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, and inability to concentrate.
The researchers said that all three had mild symptoms of Covid-19 and did not have to be hospitalized, but had more serious long-term symptoms.
He said the results were consistent with research reports on older Covid-19 patients, in which fatigue persisted for several months after recovery, regardless of the severity of the disease.
He added more research is needed to determine the biological mechanism that causes long-term symptoms and to use the information to develop treatment strategies.
